What People See, a community of lawn sculptures

We’re developing a short film about the lawn sculptures on the front lawn of the Willams’ house in Northeast Portland. Called “What People See,” the film will tell the story of the sculptures, the artists involved and the wonderful people who own the house. In place since 2002, the sculptures, modeled on real people from the community, have a strange living quality, realistic but not realistic. Kids watch them closely, waiting for them to speak. Most of the people depicted in the sculptures have moved away, tracing the fragmentation of a community.

Joann and Cleveland Williams pose with the sculptures.
